I didn't weep until this morning
While listening to President-Elect Obama's wonderful speech, I shed a few tears. It was this morning, though:

My son's mother called me so I could talk with our son--today is his ninth birthday. Before I could wish him a "Happy Birthday," he shouted with joy, "Obama is the President! Obama is the President!" I lost it.

Happy Birthday to your son! What a great birthday present he got last night. It is nice of him to share it with all of us. ;)

Having read both of Obama's books, I almost feel like I "know" him. I want to think I can know how it felt to him, and what touched me the most was the thought that his grandmother was only one day shy of seeing it happen. If you've read his book Dreams from my Father especially, you know just how much of a hero his grandmother was to him. I would say she helped to raise a fine man, and someone who I am so proud is going to be our President.

I definitely cried. And it probably won't be the last time I tear up... I'm sentimental like that.
